What was the mint thinking when they decided this was accepticle for circulation?
Doesn't look like normal flat Machine Doubling. The second impression looks as if the die twisted and pulled the metal up as the dies separated. Any other ideas?
Looks like Machine Doubling to me. As the cent stuck to the die and was pushed off it produced the flat doubling and was sticking hard enough to also push up some metal on the cent as it popped off of the die. That's my guess. See what other people say.
Is this all on the same cent? I cant tell if the pictures are all of the same coin.
Definitely Machine Doubling and the Mint was thinking nothing. Obviously, they don't check each individual coin and Machine Doubling doesn't matter anyway.
