I was reading the post earlier on ultra sonic cleaning, and it brought a question to mind. I've seen coins advertised, especially on
ebay, that have toning, and just wondered what are your thoughts on this. I've learned from reading a lot of coin collecting articles that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it is attractive to you, then it's a good coin. What would NGC or PGS consider when grading a toned coin. I've bought some proof and mint sets, from 1955 on. Some have toning, some attractive to me, some not. (brown/grey toning) Please give me your thoughts on this. Also, I have a couple of sets where a silver coin has a black spot. I understand it's tarnish from something on the coin before packed. Would that ultrasonic cleaner remove that without doing any "cleaning damage" to the coin? Would I be better off to just leave these sets alone, and not remove them from the original mint packaging?
Thanks
Doug
