I got this one dollar coin in my change today with what looks like a hole drilled all the way through near the top of the crown. I'm assuming this is not an error but just someone drilling a hole through it for some unknown reason?

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes. People drill holes in coins to be used in jewelry. You may want to post pictures of both sides of the coin to see if it has any numismatic value. Someone used it as a necklace for some reason; rare date, birthday year, etc.
