Good morning, Thanks to the ancient guys I am starting a One From Every Century (OFEC) set. I am looking for ideas on what coin I should use to represent the 21st century! lol Here is what I am looking for: -Any country -Interesting common circulating coin. (No proof only, NCLT etc...) -Not really looking for basic US stuff like the Roosy. lol -Plain designs can be just as interesting to me as super ornate. The prize will be a big Dr. Who bobble head toy thingy. (I know, super scientific description.) Will post a picture when I get home. I will close the competition on 13Jun. |

So you are looking for one singular coin to represent the 21st Century and it can be from any country?

Back when I presented my newly assembled OFEC set at a non-coin-related club, I chose this Algeria 2 dinars to represent the 21st century, because at the time I thought that the art looked modern; however, as I later found out, it is actually intended to be a medieval style, just not one generally familiar to Westerners. Still, if you can get a nice post-2000 example of the 10 dinars coin from the same series, you might want to choose that, because it's a very unusual bimetallic type (specifically, it is the world's only circulating bimetallic coin without a major color contrast between the center and the ring). Overall, without influence from my previous choices and other proposed ideas: Armenia 20 dram 2003. The 2003-04 series of Armenian coins are among the most beautiful coins in the world (well... apart from that weird coat of arms on the obverse), and the 20 dram is my personal favorite among them. Still think that rupee Finn235 proposed is nice, however. |

It is unique among those billions of US cents minted for having a P mintmark representing Philadelphia. Now, in 2018, it's gone. It may very well be the only US cent ever produced with a P mintmark. Our dinner table has so much junk on it that one more random box wouldn't really change much. Especially since it's not very useful as a Christmas tree ornament if it doesn't arrive by the end of December, but it would fit just fine at the dinner table in any part of the year. (I'm not especially familiar with Doctor Who, OK? I might as well be asking you who Vasily Livanov is.) |
