Hello all,

I recently purchased a bunch of antique Chinese coins all tied together and would love some help identifying them. I was told that they were hanging on an antique Chinese pig statue, because pigs are supposedly lucky in China and they hope they will bring you wealth. The lady I got them from works at a dump facility, and gets all kinds of amazing stuff for free. I know some Chinese coins can bring a lot of money on ebay, so can anyone tell me if I have any that are good? Or just run of the mill Qing Dynasty coins? Thank you all!

Most of those look like Ching Dynasty cash coins. That's 1644-1908/9 with 8 different emperors. This reference will help you identify which. The front has 4 characters, the upper/lower ones are the emperor , the rear none to four(usually two)are the mint. I see you have a couple different minted ones.

As for a value, not much, these are quite common coins and are even copied a lot, yours do look real tho.

I would recommend finding an expert on Chinese cash coins. I have no doubt that the coins themselves are real, but they appear to have been arrange do make a sort of charm, like this:

That is a modern fabrication; they were made in the 19th century and earlier, too. If that is indeed genuine 19th century twine holding them together, they would be worth a bit more, even as they are. If not, they are only worth about 10-25 cents as individual coins.

Oh wow, very neat. I've never seen one of those or anything like it. The calgarycoin website was a big help with learning the different cash coins, but I'm sure an expert could help!
