The last info That I saw on this,About 2 months ago, pennies were edging very close to being even with the cost of production,

Im not sure which forum I saw that on, but I remember nickles were the most profitable for the mint to produce.

Pennies the least.

pre 82 cents would not be IMO considered into the cost of production today, but they would be considered into the spot price of copper,,

I have seen conversation regarding what will happen when copper overtakes the the number of cents in a pound, some believe that cents will be melted and recycled perhaps by the FED itself when the spot rises to a point where it would make it profitable, but on the smaller scale I dont see this happening in any great amount.

126.5 Pre-1982 pennies would equal a troy pound which precious metals are weighed in (373.20 grams or 12 troy oucnes).

Remember, a troy ounce is differant than a "supermarket" ounce (avdp.) which is MORE or 31.1 grams.

Since a pre-1982 cent weighs 3.11 grams times 95% copper, that means 2.95 grams of copper per pre-82 cent.

373.20 divided by 2.95 equals 126.5 pennies per troy pound.

That of course is assuming none of the copper is lost during the refining process which is sure to happen through any melting process.

3 to a trey, 6 to zack, 12 to a deenar, 24 to 2 bob, 120 to 10 bob and 240 to a quid.

Double that if you want to know how many hapennies in a pound.

Sorry fellahs, some darkside humour
