I've always wanted a classic American coin, but they've always been out of my price range. Well recently I found this one mixed in with a bag of foreign coins! Freebie!

...So uh, it's a little worn.

Just a little bit of wear. Nothing too concerning.

Well...gotta start somewhere right?

Even if it is a nearly blank disc of copper now, the idea that this coin was circulating during the time of the founding fathers is pretty amazing to me, definitely keeping it!

I've seen type coins that worn go for around 10$ on ebay - so yeah, it's a keeper.

That's an excellent catch!

That piece represents so much history. Well worn fits the bill.

If you can do some reasearch on what is identifiable in the lettering (size, spacing, etc) and determine the date, this has a great chance of getting the low ballers dream PO1 grade. Those can get great $ these days. Cool coin!

No need to apologize. There are a lot of collectors who never own one. Congratulations.

Definitely a nice find at no cost . Too bad DNA can't yet tell who held that coin in the very beginning when the coin just started circulating . Maybe someday .

Haven't worked it out yet but I feel fairly confident it is either a 1796 or 97.
