I didn't even know that leper colonies had their own unique currency until I happened upon this coin. The leper colony on Culion Island had a population of around 4,000 at one point as the Philippines fought to get rid of the disease the only way they knew how at the time, by isolating everyone who was sick. The linked Wikipedia article has a lot more info.

This coin has a mintage of just 17,000 according to the SCOWC.
