The multi color toning is often an indicator of a chemical dip. Your photos are not sharp enough to make that determination.

So if you hear cleaned, that's why.

Clean/chemically altered for sure, attempted retone? Look at reverse above ONE. that looks like a piece of old tape, it will come off with acetone soak, BUT may leave two-tone, also may alter overall color, not for the better. I may have paid $1-1.50, not $2. Looks VF35, altered color(lemon juice?).
