Hello everyone! Hoping to get some help with a little anomaly (or at least it seems that way to me) that I noticed on the reverse of a 1956-D quarter that I have. See photos - notice the "lines" just above the letters in "QUARTER DOLLAR" and just beneath the mint mark? Does this seem out of the ordinary to any one else? I have many Washington quarters and this is not something I recall noticing before. Is it an error maybe? Something to do with the die?

If anyone has any insight, I'd be very curious to hear!

I did my best with the photos, all I have to work with at the moment is my iPhone.

Many thanks!
Jeremy

Called "Die Flow Lines". Sign of a deteriorating die. As dies wear, metal moves towards the outside, stretching occurs, these are the result. Just like buckled asphalt on a hot highway, time for a new pavement job.

BTW, to the forum. Your pix are great, you might next time post both sides, some here get their knickers in a knot if they can't see both! (snort!)

Thank you very much, I appreciate the warm welcome as well as the assistance. That makes perfect sense, I'll be sure to post both sides I. The future. (And I shall add a pic of the obverse to my original post.)

All the best,
Jeremy
