Here are some US OPA ration tokens from WW2. These were given out as 'change' whenever someone didn't 'spend' all of their ration coupons.

A friend recently show me ration coupon books that were issued to older members of her family---even had the coupons still inside. She had a small change purse full of the red tokens too.
