It seems, that the UK is one of the main launching markets for newly made forgeries.

Here is the most recent one, represented as 8 reales (instead of 4) and of Mexico (instead of Spain):

Again, we have here a very deceptive specimen with nice dark deposits, mimicking old oxidation.

The seller possibly does not know.

One thing I don't understand is how it's worthwhile for counterfeiters to make a coin that is that inexpensive. What do you think the coin will go for once the auction is over?

Well, when one looks at the fake 1733 clipper 8 reales of Mexico the same seller has listed, than the assumption of inexpensive is quickly disappearing.

What d you see in the OP image to alert us the piece is bad? Is it a die match to a known fake? Link? Is it the association with the 1733? Thanks.

Both coins are very good forgeries mimicking low-quality coins.

I do not think, that you will find a matching piece that easy.

These are forgeries produced in low numbers.

They could be even made unique if desired.

The Hamburg thaler of this seller is another copy in my opinion.
