So, Meow asks; Is this a keeper? Or litter box fodder?

Delamination is a flaw in the planchet correct? Meow is thinking the layers of metals is coming apart in a delam? Maybe that is the issue here. Maybe it cracked because the zinc and copper bonding was poor. Nothing all that rare or amazing then here?

Maybe send it to mike Diamond or Fred Weinberg. FYI delams don't happen with zinc cents. I don't think anyone else will figure it out. And most likely it will be a theory and not a conclusive explanation, not saying that to degrade them in anyway. Sometimes things happen that ppl will never know. Like the reverse of a 1973 D that made the die look warped. Only thearoy can explain the reverse of a 1973 D

But if you don't want to keep it, I will love to
Have it.

If you send it in to Mike Diamond, it will cost you a couple of dollars. Mike will examine it in in hand, and he'll tell you what he thinks. He's a coin expert as well. It's your decision to send it to him or not.

If you look at coppergolds pic of the overlay of the front and back the cracks line up exactly with Abe's hair and even the vertical cracks on the base of the memorial with the back of his head and bridge of his nose. It's almost like when the coin was struck it created a void behind the outline of the bust. When the material pushed out to fill in Abes head on the die, the pressure maybe cracked the planchet in the spots where there was the most force. Maybe the planchet was imperfect. I'm curious what it weighs. It's almost like the planchet was missing some Mass so it didn't fill the dies perfectly and left the cracks in the highest pressure spots. I don't know if I lost everyone but it makes sense in my head.

Oh yes. That does sound very plausible. Meow thinks that was a great deduction Waynoah83. The cracks in the top left of the memorial also would line up to the line of his back. Mystery solved. Thanks all. It felt good for a Cat to drag in something of interest, instead of dead bird distain.
