Meow's coin roll hunt today only yielded one interesting coin. Meow guesses its a planchet flaw. Hope you guys like it.

Nope, not a Planchet Flaw. It looks like residue stains to me.

I am kind of wanting to say it's a die clash but picture isn't clear, had you posted the date and mintmark like you always should no matter what you are working with, I would have been able to go on maddieclashes.com and see if it maybe listed.
It's gotta be an 83 or 84 cent... 83 Denver's seem to have a lot of die clashes.

Hey you are using the plugable digital microscope. Every time you go to take a picture of a coin, go to the gear symbol at the top left hand corner and change the resolution to 1200X720 I think it is(should be the second to last selection). Then you click on the picture you want to crop. Top right hand corner there is a pencil and pen in the shape of an X. Click that then crop, It down so you can post it here without having to readjust it again.

Meow did have it on that setting. The second photo is just trying to show small cracks on the rim, by the you in trust; And on both sides of the W in we. And yes it is a 1984 d. Meow did not know die clashes looked like that. It just looked like a spot where little meteor hit the coin. But is not bulged or misshaped the coin itself. There are very small cracks in the rim on the obverse, but no place else Meow and see. Attempting new photos.

Nothing odd in the photo of the date. Meow posted it to show everyone what date and mintmark it was.

Meow went and looked at maddieclashes.com, and did not see things like it. As far as Meow can see, there are no ghost images anywhere; Just cracks.

Here kitty, kitty- Does your coin have a RPM or is it just reflected light? To me it looks like there is a D within the D.

Meow thinks its not an RPM. Under different light it disappears. The coin is fairly shiny, like AU50. What do think of all dem cracks?

It may be a coin that was struck twice? Flip over strike? Hmmm..... HMMMM.... but it certainly looks different, and very questionable! I would keep this coin safe if I were you! I may email this one to Mike Diamond and see what he think about it! If you see him comment on this, definitely listen to him! lol

Thanks for your interest. Meow started collecting a few months ago, and is quite into roll hunting at the moment. There are quite a few coin variations Meow has learned in the past weeks. So far Meow has found 2 1968 D/D and a 1971 s MD.

The surface is clearly cracking, but I can't tell if it's just the copper plating or if it involves the underlying zinc. Interesting in either case.

The coin does not seem warped at all. And the obverse seems normal except for multiple cracks on the rim.
So if you don't know what it is, then the mystery cannot be solved?
When Meow found it, Meow was sure to was a defective planchet or something. Oh well, hopefully someone knows what it is; And its not damage after the fact.

I agree with Mike Diamond, the plating looks cracked. I don't know what caused it though.
