I know that it has md with the smudged look to it and it goes outwards but what I see is on the left side. I have arrows to what I see. DDR material maybe. Any thoughts?

That is Machine Doubling, even the doubling your arrows point to.

Since the doubling is incuse, a doubled die would actually make the letters thinner than usual rather than larger.

Coop did some research on these and found that around 75% of America the Beautiful Quarters have Machine Doubling similar to your coin.

It's Machine Doubling. It's very common on the ATB Quarters.

So it machine double outward for 1 and machine doubled to the left for 2. Is that right? So it's machine doubled doubled?

I agree with everyone. I think there's two diff kinds of md. One is where there letters get sort of widened and then there's the kind like in the second coin where I think when the die is intially stamping down the coin shifts a tiny bit and you get what looks like smaller sized incuse letters underneath, usually a little offset from the finished devices. I'm not exactly familiar with the new process of stamping but it seems like the die starts to press down and makes the initial incuse mark and then the coin moves a little and it finishes. Some coins are more drastic. I have a 2017 where there's about 20% of what looks like a smaller 7 justing out from behind the actual 7. But like everyone said it's really common on the ATB Quarters.

Thanks for the input. I was just looking towards the "smeared" outward part only being the MD. since the second pic was to the left then it was gonna be something different. Can anyone point me to a pic of this incuse double die, maybe I can wrap my head around it a little better since I haven't seen one yet. Thanks again.
