1967 Canada Centennial 6-Piece Coin Set Question

As an introduction I have collected very few coins over the years and nothing in the last 30 years. I have recently acquired a 1967 Canada Centennial 6-piece coin set. I remain a coin collecting novice. The set I acquired includes: - 1 cent coin with image of Rock Dove - 5 cent coin with image of Rabbit - 10 cent coin with image of Mackerel - 25 cent coin with image of Prowling Bobcat - 50 cent coin with image of Howling Wolf - $1 coin with image of Flying Canada Goose - All face features read: "ELIZABETH II D.G REGINA" with right facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II - All obverse features read: "(respective denomination) CANADA 1867-1967" with image of each coin's respective animal. All coins are arranged in a single row and of increasing value starting with the penny and ending with the dollar coin. The set is contained in a sealed plastic sleeve. The plastic has dulled over the years. I have been looking online trying to find current prices for the set. I have observed many similar coins sets as well as coin sets with different configurations. In every set I have observed the penny with the image of the flying bird appears to be a copper penny and looks distinctly different than the other 5 coins in color. In the set I acquired, the penny does not have a copper look at all. All 6 coins in the set appear to be made from the same material and appear to be dulled silver in the middle with a ring of toning/tarnishing (goldish look) around the edge. The larger denominations show the contrast more than the smaller coins. The penny coin and the nickel coin appear to have toning and little or no silver look to them in the middle. My question is: Is the set I have with a non-copper looking penny a common occurrence? Thanks for your comments and I appreciate your help. Report this Post to the Staff

silverwolf Pillar of the Community Canada 3733 Posts	Posted 07/05/2018 8:54 pm a photo would help for sure,, but there is no known non copper penny for 1967 sets.. your coin is probably just tarnished to the point of not looking like copper.. Report this Post to the Staff
tsevers0n New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 07/05/2018 9:51 pm Thanks for the reply Silverwolf, I will try to upload 4 pictures (each under 300k) an include them in this post. Two of the pictures show the penny and the nickel coins and the other two pictures show the half dollar and the dollar coins. I have no idea if the pictures will be helpful or not. I will say each of the four pictures appear to be much more toned than they appear to me when I view the actual coins. I think the lighting and the plastic sleeve create that look. Perhaps you can see why I said the 4 coins look like they were made from the same material. The penny and the nickel sure look alike in color to me. When I view other sets online the penny definitely looks much different than the nickel. I hope the uploads work. Report this Post to the Staff

ace_ftw Pillar of the Community Canada 1747 Posts	Posted 07/06/2018 10:51 am So your set was put together after market, this plastic holder was sold (are still being sold) for collectors to have year type holders. This set is not uncommon. Your images unfortunately are not good enough for us to really help you. off metal strikes are not unheard of however rare. If you are more interested in checking this out, you will need to carefully remove the coins from the holder, take nicer pictures of just the penny (both sides) as straight on as possible. You will also will need to weigh the coin. I would suspect that this is just a toned cent but your pictures are not helping to determine anything more. Report this Post to the Staff

I am in new territory with coin collecting and sharing your knowledge has helped me. My initial impression was this situation can be explained through toning of the penny.
