with VG-10. Looks like the real deal. Fantastic find. Save it and pass it down.

Took this by the coin dealer. He confirmed it was real an offered $1600 for it. He admitted it was probably worth quite a bit more but with the amount of traffic in his store he couldn't put any more into it. He said if it sat in the store for more than two months he would be losing money. The store is in Bartlett TN about 10 miles from Memphis.

He was trying to lowball you. Hopefully we have helped educate you as to value and auction houses that can sell it if for you if you choose to do so.

Welcome, Tnvol ( TN Vols, right?). I live in Jackson, so I'm not too far from you. I was expecting to see an obvious counterfeit, but how nice that it was the genuine article instead. I would love to know how it was acquired and how long he owned it. Pretty cool that a Morgan of this caliber has come out of hiding. I would send it to PCGS for the Gold Shield Service. You'll get the TrueView images included.

Basebal21 - I kinda doubt he had very many coins in there that he had invested $1600 in.
Also I've been trying to figure out how to quote posts like that, mind telling me how?

Darth I actually live in Newbern. My daughter lives in Bartlett but we are still right down the road. Good to know someone here is that close. I'm trying to figure out where my dad got the coin. If I find out I will definitely post the info. The dealer thanked me for coming in and told me it was good to have one of those come in his store which made me feel pretty good. When my wife and I got home I pull the shoebox off the top shelf of the closet where we had a few coins since we were kids. Had a 1972 Ike dollar, series 1 though. Several Buffalo nickels, several wheat pennies and a bunch of Canadian coins. It was fun looking them up. I will look into PCGS

Great story - always nice to see one of these 'dad left it behind' coins actually be the real deal .... and a valuable one at that.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art
