Darth I actually live in Newbern. My daughter lives in Bartlett but we are still right down the road. Good to know someone here is that close.

I'm trying to figure out where my dad got the coin. If I find out I will definitely post the info.

The dealer thanked me for coming in and told me it was good to have one of those come in his store which made me feel pretty good.

When my wife and I got home I pull the shoebox off the top shelf of the closet where we had a few coins since we were kids. Had a 1972 Ike dollar, series 1 though. Several Buffalo nickels, several wheat pennies and a bunch of Canadian coins. It was fun looking them up.

I will look into PCGS

Great story - always nice to see one of these 'dad left it behind' coins actually be the real deal .... and a valuable one at that.

Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

I used to shop at A Coin and Silver Shop in Memphis when I lived there. Those are some good guys. That's a nice 1893 S Morgan!

Thanks Jason I'm defiantly going by there. I pulled it up on google and it's looks really nice. The one in Bartlett wasn't much bigger than my office.

OMG!

Someone with a story about their father or grandfather and it's a real legit rare coin. That's even more rare than the coin you have!

Nice coin.

Hope you can afford to keep it.

Thanks, that's nice to here.

I want anyone reading this that has an elderly father, to ask him questions, even if you think it's not important. Take a look around his home, if you see something you don't know anything about, ask him about it. My dad and I had a great relationship, we worked together for 25 years, he was my best man when I got married and my best friend when he died. My wife and I did a 25 minute documentary video on him 3 months before his death, asking all kinds of questions about his life, I still didn't know about the coins.

I went back today and got the rest of the coins he had stashed away in his drawer. There were a couple Kennedy halves and a 2000 Sacagawea dollar, that appear's best I can tell with a normal magnifying glass, not to be Cheerios or a wounded eagle.

Yeah, that guy's shop wasn't too good, and he definitely didn't seem as honest either.

Hmmm, I been wondering about a ring I found outside his shop. Looked like a diamond ring. I took it in and told him I found it outside thinking they might know who had been in before me and who it belonged to. He looked at it and said it was junk. Makes me wonder, what if it wasn't? Got to hope it was junk now though.

Lots of comments already, but what a spectacular coin to be left behind.
