I have a small 8mm Portugesa coin. It seems to be made out of Aluminum. On one side is a shield and 5$00. on the obverse is a ship and the words Republica Portugesa. Has anyone ever heard of such a coin or is it a tourist item

Your coin has the appearance of this one shown on the Numista site. But should have a diameter of 24.5 mm rather than 8 mm. 8 mm is extremely tiny for any coin.

Never seen one before. It is definitely a novelty coin, like the miniature US coins that are also like 7-8mm.

It's purporting to be a 5 Escudo coin. Perhaps part of a "small world" themed novelty set?

Miniature novelty "coin". Apparently also made with other dates.

This small aluminum coin was manufactured in the mint of Lisbon to offer at the Coin Fairs, Medals and Banknotes. They are imitations of circulating currencies. There are in various metals and denominations
