With the gold price being as low as it is I'm looking to pickup a few slabbed 62 for 63 double eagles.

They're being offered by a few of the big online retailers with minimal premium with 1899 or earlier dates. I'm looking for coins that are typically struck well. Which mint produced the best $20 coins?

I have no issue-specific knowledge, but as a generality the best of late 19th Century US mintage is found coming from San Francisco.

1899 and earlier varies. Before 1870 the highest premiums are going to New Orleans minted coins then from 1870 the Carson City mint mark receives highest premiums during its up and down operations up until 1893 with the exception of 1885 through 1889, after 1893 most of the highest premiums go to San Francisco.
