The bimonthly "board" auction (ie all the real "junk" that people bring in to sell) had this one pinned up on the wall for the last two weeks. I am continuously amazed that my competition will pay $25-30 for an average late Roman bronze but when something really different shows up they act like it isn't even there ! I could never sell this coin off It gives me too much of a warm fuzzy feeling just looking at it Emperor Hadrian Æ Drachm Alexandria Egypt Obv. AVT KAI TΡAI AΔΡIA CEB Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian right Rv. Hadrian on right holding scepter and extending right hand to Alexandria (wearing elephant headdress) on left who kisses it and holds grain ears in left hand L - IE in fields (regnal year 15) AD 130-1 Mint of Alexandria 24.86 grams 34-5mm Köln 1034 Dattari 1610 BMC 869 Milne 1315 I generally don't like to drop dollar amounts ....... FVRIVS RVFVS Pillar of the Community United States 3443 Posts	Posted 07/29/2018 11:00 am This is actually my first Alexandrian Roman Provincial in nearly forty years. The few very worn examples I once owned long ago have long since moved on to new owners I realize now with a bit of research that this is actually a bronze drachm and not a hemidrachm (1/2 drachm) It gets better ! This reverse also shows Alexandria wearing the elephant headdress I found a similar one on Wildwinds It sold over 20 years ago for around 65 Big Macs I am liking this coin even more today !
