Hello All, Saw this note for sale. It is the only nomination for its year and its a solid serial number. Book value of $1800 in top condition. It is graded at unc-60 but with a 8mm tear in it. How much does this devalue a note like this. Surly a solid radar from this year is hard to find, but a tear will turn off any serious collector or is there a price that will make it attractive for the most picky collector because of the rarity. It a offer of $300 low balling or still to much with the tear... Edited by TheBurnz 07/30/2018 1:04 pm

Hey theburnz
I can't comment on what a good resale value is but IMO $300 is absolutely a low ball offer. 1 digits solid radars in a mint state grade would easily fetch substantially more than your offer. Maybe someone else would chime in with a better opinion

With out the rip, agreed it can sell probably for more then the book value $1800, but with the rip it really in my opinion isn't mint. I was thinking more like 15% of that.
But over all, my thought was like friedsquid's, pass and wait and pay up for a better one. But I am not sure. Like to hear more opinions.

Despite being a solid radar, a bill like that with a tear will always be hard to get rid of down the line...

Very true, I find "problem bills" are a lot harder to sell than "problem coins".
This might be a tough sell at that price but someone will over pay for it.

A 1921 50 cent with a hole drilled will still sell at a stupid price, but a solid 1967 series note is hard to find but not impossible hence the book value of 1800.00 this note will sell if at near the poster's value or slightly higher and that would be market value.

Tough call. Personally, the tear would offset too much of the pride of owning such a rarity, so I'd move on. Solid 1's are pretty special, though, so I'm betting a lot of collectors would feel differently.

IMO: In the past, I have often purchased less than UNC notes with 1 simple rule: tears/graffiti are "deal-breakers." Recently, the only new rule I've added is that the note must be "EPQ" PPQ" or some form of "original" designation (if I'm going to pay for TPG I must at least get that reassurance). With CCCS that's not even a "given." Pass this one up.
