Has anyone dealt with or any other business with J&M out of Vancouver? I know a lot of us have used their online catalog as a price point for coins and for various references. I'm curious how it went, quality, timelines for putting orders together and delivery. Basically any info, personal or business, I would like to hear. Thanks!

Good experiences for most part. They can be a bit sloppy handling low value coins (finger prints and bare hands), so make sure you check the items. Good selection, fair dealing.
In terms of prices, you can find cheaper elsewhere (ebay, auctions etc...), but those venues take time and effort. Great prices on supplies.

Thanks wasted. Do you remember or know how long it took to put an order together? I know their wesite says 5-10 business days for regular shipping but doesn't say how long it takes to fill the order.
On another note, I you or ANYONE have a recommendation on how to clean fingerprints off of coins like this? You know, so overtime residues and oils don't damage the coins over a long period of time? I'm kind of re teaching myself a lot of these things, well more of a brush up. Is it a soft soap and water thing and let fully dry before placing them in sleeves?

I have purchased lots of coins from J and M over the last 6 years and have had no problem .They were good to work with especially when Canada Post lost one of my orders worth about 5,000 .Eventually Canada Post (I hate dealing with Canada Post) found it at their facility in Vancouver all the while J and M did everything in their power to help track it down.I also Phone J and M for hard to get items that are not listed on their website and quite enjoy talking to the owner and have found him to be one of the best to deal with , which I cannot say about some other Canadian online coin shops.I used to live near the border and really miss shipping with usps.

I have never been to their shop - but I have done many transactions with Joe. I can't say enough nice words about Joe, he is a fair, gentlemen dealer. Sometimes his prices are high - but he manages to get his hands on stuff I rarely see.

Only dealt with Joe at shows and as noted his prices sometimes are overly optimistic but he does have some really cool stuff

Thanks for all the info guys. I placed a small order to give it a little test run. Do you know how long it will take him to put together the order?

I have been dealing with J&M for about 5 years now. They have inventory that is hard to match, although Coins & Currency in Thornhill, Ont is probably close. I find the staff pleasant to deal with, especially once they got to know me, and generally the pricing is fair, if on the high end. They generally base their list prices on 90% of Trends.
I always deal face to face, since I live in Vancouver, so I have no input on shipping etc. Joe must have a million stories to tell having been in the business for so long. I often wonder what the personal collections of shop owners like Joe would be like - if they still collect.
Maybe a couple of times over the years I've been dis-satisfied with part of a particular purchase, and they always honour their return policy.
Keep in mind dealers in general will tend to grade low when purchasing coins, and grade high when selling. I find them responsive to feedback and open to discussion though.

I live in the Vancouver area and have been dealing with Joe @ J&M off and on for over 20 years. I don't use the mail order but J&M on East Broadway is one of my LCS.
I have never had a poor experience with J&M. Their pricing is a little high but Joe is often open to negotiate... If you want to negotiate though, be reasonable (don't offer $500 for a MS 1948 $1 as he will walk away... & rightly so) and avoid the other staff as they tend to stick to the posted prices.
J&M also offer one of the lowest spreads for bullion that I have seen. I purchase GML's at J&M almost exclusively. I have bought SMLs here but they can run out of stock fairly quickly and they don't have a great selection of world bullion beyond Canada, US & Australia.
I would recommend Joe/J&M any day of the week.

So guys I bought a small batch of coins to test the waters with JM. Seeing how the order process works, price point, grade of the coins ordered, timeline etc etc. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with them. It seems it took them about five days to put the money through credit card so I guess it took them that long to put together the order. It took a total of 18 days from day of order to arrival at my door. Price point was decent and they didn't call me so I guess there were no issues on their end. Only two things I could say that may have been improved would be
1. Send a confirmation that order has been put together and actually shipped out.
2) my order had "signature required" written all over it and yet it ended up just in my mailbox no signature required. Not sure how that happened. Maybe a ploy from JM to make people handling the order think that it's tracked? Not sure.
So overall good experience! Just thought I would update in case anyone old or new was wondering. Also, if someone in the area deals directly with joe, maybe pass on the suggestion. ;-)
