So in my new obsession with collecting coins I stumble upon this is this an error or is it possible that this is a man made hoax? The coin is in pretty bad shape and my camera isn't the best but any input is greatly appreciated.

What's the obv. side look like? Looks like a dime was placed on the 5c, then whacked, hammered etc.

Someone placed a dime on a nickel and hit it with a hammer or pressed them together with a vice. Not made at the mint, it's just damage.

It's a Vise-job. Some took a Dime, placed it on a Nickel, and then whacked it hard with a hammer, causing the details to be transferred over on the Nickel. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).

Spot on. That's exactly what has happened to this Nickel, very obvious even through this blurry image.

Thank you all for welcoming me it's great to be here. I expected as much I couldn't possibly be this lucky to find such a good coin so early.

There's lots to learn and I'm glad I could depend on so much good advice, I have been peeking at this forum for info here and there finally decided to join instead of just glancing in.

It's a damaged coin as mentioned. It's worth face value.
