Coins can be affected by their "environment". Handling, heat, smoke, liquids and particularly car cupholders. The yellow color isn't an error, just staining from one of any factor found in circulation. Coca-cola comes to mind with a lighter to toast it on...

It's just picked up colour from environmental damage as crazyb0, its not worth getting checked out, you can safely spend it.

Coins are metal of course, metal turns color, like a tarnish on silver, rust on steel, zinc rot on the newer cents. If a coin is heated, especially Cu-Ni(cupronickel), what contemporary nickels and clad coins are made of, it will turn blackish to grayish and become dull. Oil from human hands can be quite acidic, that wats the surface away and causes chemical reactions, hence, color changes. A gold tone, particularly if only one side is effected is usually caused by the sun having a reaction to the metal and whatever elements are on that surface facing the sun. This is what is called "environmental damage", it is not an error and adds no premium value to a coin.

If the nickel back side and edge is silver (normal), and only the from is tarnish or yellow, then for sure is just environmental damage (scratch) as you wrote, it could have been soak in some cleaning fluid for a while and changed the color on the obverse (front).

You're not doing yourself any good or making any friends here.
You came to ask our help and several members of the community have told you that there's nothing special about the nickel it's simply environmental damage.
All you've done is argue with us.
If you're so much smarter than everybody here then why did you show up and ask for help?
Your level of knowledge is shown by your ridiculous comment about the sparkle of silver being added to the coin. No such step in the minting process and no silver in the coin.
On other boards people would have already push the ignore button. Here we don't have that feature but a lot of people will see your name and think oh that idiot and not even bother to read your next post
Harsh? Yes. Reality? Yes. You'll notice a lot of people have already stopped responding to you.
Best of luck

OP's deleted reply so Mr. Strauss doesn't look like a bully... (There were several others though) The side is not silver it is something different (same as front weird color), hard to get a picture with my crummy camera. I am definitely getting it checked on Saturday and will tell you what they say. To me, this is almost like they did not put the sparkle of silver coloring in the mixture. However, the back is very silver coloring. And I do know nickels do not have a clad added. I believe you all are much more knowledgeable than I, but I do want to have it looked at anyway. It is so weird, and I use this word because it is weird. Once again the sides are the same color as the obverse (not silver). Will update. Thanks
