Greetings all ... I have a few iron coins, mostly German notgeld and the odd occupation issue, which are suffering from corrosion. Any advice on how to remove, or at least stop the progression of rust on coins, without doing any damage?
I use a commercial rust-converting solution on my old Toyota Corolla but I don't think I want to use it on coins, ha ha!
Because of where I live I'm unlikely to be able to get my hands on specialist coin-cleaning products, so I'm limited to commonly available chemicals, solvents, etc...

I'd soak them in olive oil for awhile (coupla weeks) to see if their condition can be improved. A light coating of oil (machine) after this would protect them.

I would do what was suggested above, and see if that works.

If you're going to use oil to protect them, I would first give them an acetone bath to dry and remove any water in the system. Then the oil will keep water out instead of trapping it in. Acetone has a great affinity for water it will absorb it and then evaporate away the water with it.

Thanks for the tips and the coin-cleaning link! I'll start with the olive oil ...
