Since the start of the trade war, Gold has tied itself to Chinese Yuan (CNY). You can plot USD/CNY vs Gold, they are almost inversely correlated. It makes some sense since Chinese government had been accumulating gold over the years; and tried to back CNY with the reserve.

Last week, Gold was around $1212 and USD/CNY was about 6.83:1; today the numbers are $1178 and 6.89:1. The forecast for the rest of the year is that USD/CNY will hit 7.5:1, you can do the math for yourself for the gold price.

Watch Out Below.

Add an extra 35% for the AU$ for a silver oz.

US$ buys about same in living expenses costs as the AU$.

It doesn't matter what the value is, you still only get to keep a little over half of every dollar.

The US dollar goes much further in day to day expenses than the AU one does. US prices are significantly cheaper in the vast majority of day to day expenses.

Grow your own fruits/veggies and livestock (chickens), and it's even less. Or so, I'd like to think.

To grow your own food and be cheaper you would have very little variety and nothing out of season to eat. Some foods are just impossible to grow your own because of cost to make climate control areas to grow it.

The way to go with meat is ducks as they are extremely hardy and breed like flies and get to an eating size very quickly. Chicken die easy and are very nervous egg layers compared to ducks.

Goats are another great meat grower as a heard increases by 130% per year. Sheep herds increase by 30% per year.In Australia wild pigs eat 80% of available lambs per year.

It is cheaper to buy top quality food than to try and grow it yourself.

And with the savings of not growing your own you could buy a couple of ozs of gold per year too boot.

I'll have to disagree. I've raised meat and egg birds over the last 20 years. My Cornish rock hybrids grow to six pounds in just eight weeks! If I have laying hens, they usually die of old age lol. Ducks I don't care for, greasy and gamey. As for fruits and veggies, the varieties are endless, at least here in the northern US. Homegrown beats tasteless store bought produce every time, non-GMO, and the cost is cheap. I can grow leafy greens in the winter in zero degree conditions, outside. Almost everything I eat in the summer, and a lot in the winter, is food I've grown myself. Just can't be beat.

That's great that you take your food growing so full on.

How much grain do you use and grow, to get your Cornish rock hybrids to six pounds in just eight weeks?Do you use gain in your diet? How do you go for milk and oil? Do you use olives?Sugar or do you use honey? What about coffee?

Fertilizer costs do you have an answer to that and the pest & disease issues especially in the US.

Vegetables like leafy green are easy as but what about your root crops. Growing your grain sprouts at the kitchen sink is a winner but I do not know how good it would be for fowl growing.

Meat is what you can get use too but ducks can eat anything and still out lay and out grow the very most of featured creatures.

To grow enough fruit to have it all year. It takes up 1/3 of our diet. Maybe you cut a few corners.

I am not sure what you are on about, kg5. You apparently live in Queensland, Australia and fistfulladirt lives in Michigan, U.S. Are those similar places? I don't know.

What is your intent, kg5?

Your comment reinforces AU living expenses are cheaper that a cold climate area + what has already been explained.

There are more county currencies in this world of ours than the US$. This could be a surprise to some people!
