They're the Countess and Earl of Minto (he being the Governor General from 1898 to 1904).

Pretty nice note, I love these denominations. Online catalog value of $3,400.00 CAD. With out the low denomination. I don't have my Charlton at work today, but wondering if its listed in there with low serial number premiums. The price could possibly double or even triple.
Pretty cool collection. Where did you get all these notes..

Quote: I don't have my Charlton at work today, but wondering if its listed in there with low serial number premiums. The price could possibly double or even triple. There is no mention of low # notes before 1935. They just weren't collected so while this may attract considerable attention, you have to factor in that the note is just rare (anyways). I know this may be hard for some to understand- but when it comes to rarer notes like these - its typically condition that trumps out all other peculiarities (or unique features of a note- such as being cut-off centre- which a lot of notes had). So, its really difficult to say how much a premium this note would fetch (really depends on the crowd at auction time). Its like a solid radar on a change-over prefix. Solids are so rare- does it really matter whether its on a change-over prefix or full run prefix? To some collectors- yes. Others, like the majority of solid radar collectors: not so much (they just want original & high grade with a perfect centred design).

Hello walk2dwater, I had the same thought but then I said to myself. if I had to invest in either note and budget wasn't a object. I would choose the lowers serial number note, maybe the low serial number just makes this particular note more appealing between one with a high serial number instead of adding value...

Quote: if I had to invest in either note and budget wasn't a object. If you're really a "special numbers" type of collector than this $4 is the note for you. If not, than you may be inclined to look at higher grades (like the DC-23c 1917 in another thread). Some collectors adore notes with a provenance such as the "Covered Bridge Collection." Other collectors may not be so impressed by this (but like the fact that its TPG). I've seen some pretty ratty rags with radar SN from the 1935 series go for a "king's ransom" (especially when the market is hot). Hard to say. Everyone has different parameters on what makes a note collectible for him or her.

Hi guys thanks for all your comments I really appreciate it. This how look at it in my perspective. If a note is super rare like 20 to 100 notes that exist then when one pops up on the market I try to get it doesn't really matter the grade because who knows when you will see one available again. When its a note thats less rarer then I try to get higher graded ones. Thanks again guys...
