WOW, that's a nice example too!
Interestingly, your first picture shows the coin well. What I imagine is likely most representative of the coin. I think a lot of your pictures are too good. They tend to show every little flaw and flow line which inspires a lot of undergrading IMHO. I think you've already shown this with some of your (now slabbed) coins.
I've been trying to add a point to the "magnifying glass" grade I see on the screen with your coins. I think your coins are probably a LOT nicer in hand.

PS- You should investigate the conditions you used in that first picture. Sometimes moving the camera back and readjusting the lighting and white balance allows for a more representative picture. I specifically remember this coin giving me trouble because of the toning. This picture was taken at about 2x my normal distance and then cropped for web use. My "normal" pics washed out the toning - totally misrepresenting how the coin actually looks in hand. Yes, I know it's far from perfect - the focus isn't that good - but this is how it looks when you're holding it except for the airtite like aberration in the right field (not on the coin):

I used a similar trick with the reverse - you can clearly see the toning:

Quote: I did notice it has a straight line of toning right across the memorial base, anyone know what that could be? Just normal toning, I can't even see it. Try some xylene on the coin, should improve it overall.

BadThad, Lots of good pointers. However the only thing I use for my pictures are my IPhone and the bathroom vanity light above me. One day I may have equipment like I see you pros use but in till then this is all I got. I do feel the coins do look a lot better in person then my pictures tend to show.
Thank you Coinfrog!

My setup is an ancient Canon SD700 - 6MP ($75), a $25 Lowes desk lamp and a piece of copy paper. So actually, with your iPhone, you have a more expensive setup! The key is my light, it has a GREAT spectrum for coins IMO. I take all my pictures free-hand and the lamp is easy to move around in any direction 360°. It also has a tilt function - very handy. It lets me get perfect light, one of the most important parts about coin photography. I think that's all you need and your pictures will rock with that phone. Also, check to see if you can DECREASE the resolution, you don't need a zillion megapixels for general use coin pictures. ALL my of pictures were taken a 6MP, it can be done!
