That really looks like damage to me. It appears it was smashed in some device.

I agree, the coin wouldnt be out of round if it were a planchet flaw

Yep, looks like PMD to this oldtimer, too.

This patriotic has long been among my favorites, what with its inclusion of GOD. Two Cent Pieces were introduced the following year, likewise acknowledging the Creator.
