This one was posted before by jbuck http://goccf.com/t/327604#2796112, but I wanted to repost it and add an image of the residence. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Farm House Residence in Gettysburg (Rear East Facade) (Image Credit: National Park Service. Public Domain.)Though the coin was issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dwight David Eisenhower, the house depicted on the coin is NOT his birthplace home; it is his house in Gettsyburg, PA that he and his wife, Mamie, purchased after World War II. Eisenhower originally planned on retiring at the Gettysburrg home after the War, but was called to Europe to serve as Supreme Commander of NATO forces and then served two terms as US President. After his second term as President was completed in 1961, Dwight and Mamie retired to Gettysburg and lived out the rest of their lives on the farm; Dwight died in 1969, Mamie in 1979.

I recently posted about the 2017 National Park Services Centennial Silver Dollar and its depiction of the "Old Faithful" Geyser. (See it here: 2017 NPS Centennial.) Preceding that coin by nearly two decades was the 1999 Yellowstone National Park Centennial Silver Dollar. It commemorates the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Yellowstone National Park; the Park was actually established in 1872 when Ulysses S. Grant signed its Congressional bill into law - the coin bill was delayed in Congress and was not approved until 1999 was the next available release date option. Yellowstone is the United States' (and World's) first National Park. Featured on the coin's obverse is one of Yellowstone's many geysers; the US Mint does not specifically identify the geyser as "Old Faithful." Rather than repeat an image of the "Old Faithful" Geyser (seen previously), here's a photo of one of the Park's bison "(American Buffalo") in the open wilderness.

The 1989 Bicentennial of the US Congress commemorative coin program included a Gold Half Eagle, a Silver Dollar and a CuNi Clad Half Dollar. Each of the coins featured elements of the US Capitol among its primary design elements. US Capitol Building (Image Credit: Architect of the Capitol. Public Domain.)The coin program commemorated the 200th anniversary of the first session of the US Congress. From https://www.visitthecapitol.gov: "The First Congress (1789-1791) laid the foundation built upon by future congresses: It inaugurated the president, created government departments, established a system of courts, passed the Bill of Rights, and enacted laws needed by the new country to raise money and provide for other essential needs. Meeting first in New York City and then in Philadelphia, legislators moved in 1800 to the new Capitol in the District of Columbia." For more about the coins and the images depicted on them, see: - 1989 US Congress Bicentennial

In 2005, the US Mint issued a Silver Dollar to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Chief Justice John Marshall. (You can read about Marshall's public service career here: Coins with a Public Service Career Theme. (Image Credit: Architect of the Capitol. Public Domain.)The US Supreme Court was established as one of the three branches of the US Government in the US Constitution - the Judicial Branch. (The others are the Executive Branch (President) and Legislative Branch (Congress)). Before it had its own building, the US Supreme Court met within the US Capitol. It is this chamber that is shown on the coin (and image above).

The small orphanage that developed into the original Boys Town was established in Nebraska by Father Edward Flanagan in 1917. To mark its centennial, a commemorative coin program was authorized by the US Congress and struck by the US Mint in 2017. Of the three coins in the program, the Half Dollar depicts Boys Town "places." Boys Town was established to aid children in need and was open to all races, creeds and religions. The organization continues its mission today, helping children and their families in multiple locations across the United States.

Next up is the first of three military-themed silver dollars authorized by the US Congress - the 1994 Vietnam Veterans Memorial (Image Credit: National Park Service. Public Domain.)The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall ("Memorial") honors the "men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States who served in the Vietnam war." (Public Law 96-297) The primary component of the Memorial is its black granite wall that lists the names of the 58,318 Americans who died while serving their country as part of the Vietnam War. The Memorial was dedicated on the National Mall in Washington, DC in 1982.
