I am thinking of offering this on the website for someone who might find it appropriate for a lower grade type set, but I want to see if we can ID it definitively. I am leaning toward 1805 C-3, but as I know this variety is listed as 'very scarce' I wanted to see if anyone else could take a stab at it so I don't end up stating something is what is isn't. Thanks very much --HABIB

One primary difference between C-3 and C-4 on the 1805 Half Cent is the numeral 5 on the obverse.

If it does not touch the bust, and the 5 is very small... C-3

If it does touch the bust, C-4

What I can't tell from the picture is just how close the upper right part of the 5 is to the bust.

You have to take a close look to see if in fact the upper part of the 5 touched the bust and is worn, which would make it C-4...or see if the 5 is in fact separated from the bust making it a C-3

Thanks,
Bill

Hi,

I checked, yours might be a C-4 the 5 looks too big on your coin.

This link takes you to some pictures, scroll down to see a C-3. The 5 looks to be obviously smaller. But..you be the judge.

If you "right click" on the picture on his page, you can click on view image to get a larger view.
