I recently noticed that there just might be at least two different varieties of the 1973 South Korean 10-Won coin. This semi-key date coin seems to have something approximating a "small date" and a "large date" variety. In the coin on the left (the "small date"), the "9" curves more, and stops at about the same level as the bottom of the "1." In the "large date" (right), the "9" is straighter and plunges more noticeably below the bottom of the "1." The "7s" also look different, with the top of the small date angled upward, whereas the large date seems straight. You can also see some "machine doubling," if not some actual "doubling" on the back of the "3" in the small date version. If you just eyeball the two coins, side by side, you can see some size/shape difference in the dates... Fascinating...

Rest in Peace

Either it's my eyes or I'm going blind...is the 10 on the right coin tilted to the left more? Now that I look at it the whole DESIGN on the is angled from NW to SE. The 1 is slenderer on the lower portion. Looks to be completely different die designs...it is, fonts are different and sized different.

Possibly the image on the right is rotated just a tiny amount counterclockwise compared to the one on the left. Our eyes are great at picking up just a few degrees.

But I agree the die has been cut slightly differently. IN particular, the letters in BANK are different.

Yes, the spherical nature of the lens(?) of this particular camera, and the fact that they are not completely lined up makes it look off.

I think the only thing going on are the differences in the dates. I think that "3" is actually re-punched and doubled now that I look at it more...

Agree on the re-cut 3.

Do the numbers in the date also line up differently with the letters above in KOREA? And with the base of the 1 in the 10.

IN particular, the bottom of date on the left looks like it is slightly above the base of the 1. The date on the right looks like it aligns exactly with the base of the 1. Etc.

But maybe it just seems this way because the image on the right has more shadow down there.
And then sometimes I think if you look too long, yours eyes start to make this stuff up

I do still think the B and A in BANK also look different (thicker on the coin on right)

Yep. Perhaps you're right.

It seems as if they pressed another hub altogether here.
