1971 L.100 Italian With Some Damage To Rim Need Help ID

I got this in a bag of coins it is a 1971 100 lire Italian coin. It has some strange damage to the rim. Not your usual beaten with a blunt object! Looks like bad metal or something else. I have an Idea, but want to see what everyone else thinks!

It could have been damaged with anything. Definitely has been damaged with brutal force.

That's a good guess NumisRob. Some type of tool was used to damage this coin.

thing is though it is pitted like acid or something ate the inside of the coin. Maybe picture doesn't show very good
