I was wondering what everyone thinks of the new playing cards vs. the original series?
Will they boost interest in the originals from 2009?

Some of the real playing card money has been going for silly prices at auctions, some collectors tells me they are quite rare but more shows up every few months, looks like something that can easily be faked with the going auction prices, the RCM is just jumping on the band wagon

Yes, there is a chance that the new series will bump interest in the 2008-09 set, but I doubt it would have a big impact on the market for the older coins.

The maximum mintage for the new set is 1,250. Sales of each coin in the older series ranged from a low of about 5,800 to a high of about 11,000. So, at least 5,800 sets of the older coins could be assembled. That's more than 4x the number of new sets. Based on that, I would guess the market could absorb new interest in the '08-09 issues by those who purchase the new set.

Just my opinion.

From the RCM website:

Quote:
EVERY SET COMES WITH A MINT-BRANDED DECK OF CARDS! Order today!

I expect these cards soon appear for sale on ebay.

The media has done a story on these. Now "Awaiting Stock" at RCM.

I like how the article says they released a playing card series around a decade ago and add the first series "were a big hit".
Why not make a full deck of 52 overpriced cards?

I did purchase the first playing cards and I liked the designs. The obverse was also nicely laid out.

Really cool I thought, and historically meaningful too.

I eventually sold them but you know, maybe if the RCM did yearly releases to be "collected" I might have considered continuing the series. 4 per year, that's 13 years and add the wildcards for Master Club Only + a nice glossy wooden box. I'd still be ordering for 3 more years.

Oh well.
