Basically, I've been showing gimmicky coins released by mints around the world. Many releases from the RCM have been included. I'm glad to see I'll have new material for October's meeting.

The Helmet Shaped Coin is kind of gimmicky, but I kind of like it. Gimmicky as well is the 2 oz. Pure Silver Coin with Blue Rhodium Plating - Great White Shark. Like what they are doing with the selective gold plating, the coin is plated with the blue rhodium except for the shark. The plating give a cool nice effect. Some may say, what's Canadian about a great white shark? Two were just tagged off Nova Scotia. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova...ds-1.4596678

So I got the official notification last night... There is almost nothing in here that I like. I might pick up the 50 cent for set continuity... I was looking forward to the $2 set but it was not on the list, maybe in November closer to Remembrance Day. The gold coin is interesting but I need to see it in hand as the red splotch for the poppy looks odd in the artist's render. I am usually a sucker for the "big coin" 5oz issues but these two left me cold. Hockey Cards - Sheesh I am not even going to start on that. Helmet... I have said it before, there is a vibrant market in silver objects that are not currency. Is there a reason that the RCM cannot branch out and sell non-currency items. Are they restricted by Act of Parliament to currency only... Making a helmet into a $25 coin is beyond a stretch and verges on lunacy. Probably the most interesting in the list IMO was the Rhodium plated 2oz Shark. But for $200 I need to see it in hand, not an artist's rendering.

What does everyone think of the new Test Token set?
And why has it been removed from CDNCOIN?

The Test Token set and the $2 set are not listed on the RCM site. They may have been removed from the October 1 release.

I limit my non-SD purchases from the RCM, but I did go ahead and order one of the 1/2-ounce silver $10 coins commemorating the 100th anniversary of the WWI Armistice. As soon as I saw it, I sensed familiarity. It reminded me of the In Flanders Fields $20 silver coin from 2015 in its design style and respect for its subject matter. When I checked the artist on the earlier coin, I was reminded that it was designed by Laurie McGaw - the same artist as for the new Armistice coin. I think they will go together nicely in a World War I exhibit I am planning for a November coin show.

I actually think the 2018 CANADA $200 ARMISTICE POPPY 1OZ. PURE GOLD is incredibly well done but overpriced. At $2900 it is an incredibly poor value.

Quote: The Test Token set is on Colonial Acres for VIP pre-order but not the Mint site Thanks I'm aware that they are available but there is no mention of numbers. Also, interesting to note that no VIP discount is offered. Regardless, they've actually sold one since yesterday - I guess we know who ordered it. Just curious of the 'mintage' given that the tokens are apparently used. I can't imagine they have a ton of them but could be wrong. I would buy now if the the numbers are low. Otherwise I'll wait for the inevitable markdown price.

Was told 10,000 and that these sets will be available on Tuesday. It's best to check with another clerk on Monday just to confirm. Sometimes they Miss Inform.
