Someone posted this on facebook on an antiques page asking about it's value. I am reposing their images here with their permission. The comments immediately started coming in saying that at last there was an actual error on the page but the more I looked at it, the more I wasn't quite sure.

It looks well worn like it went through circulation for 35 years and was not pulled out by someone in the mid 80s noticing an error. It also looks like under "In God We Trust" that there was once an ridged edge there (but shouldn't be if this was a real off center coin). Unless that is also PMD that happens to look like the edge of the coin, where the edge of the coin should be, I think that this might be a fake (which could be why it turned up in spare change all these years later).

That's actually not a fake. It's a legitimate error coin with a lot of circulation wear. I'm thinking that it's an Off Center Strike. You could probably get 10 to 15 dollars for this.

Yes real error. The marks you are seeing by IGWT probably indicates that the obv die probably suffered a collar clash at one time.
