Brand even in my lifetime there was a time when that quarter meant something. Even a dime did. In 1970 the old man would order a beer at the ballgame and the Beer guy would pull out an ice cold goose neck Old Style or Schlitz beer for 2 of those quarters. I'd get a coca cola or Fresca for one of them, a cheese sammich for one, change back after buy a program or score card, and your hot dog would only need a dime extra with the 25 cents. For $3, which I easily made cutting grass and delivering papers, a kid could sit in the Wrigley bleachers with his seat and lunch covered as well as his bus fare. And there would be no magnetometers used to scan you when you walked in. You just walked in. No wonder a 12yo could go to about every home game. We'd throw baseballs and ink pens to the players during warm ups and they'd sign them for us and throw them back. Thats what these coins mean to me. They are my time machine into history and its why I love them. Today that 50 cent beer at Wrigley Field would cost you $10.78. That 35 cent hot dog would cost you $6.68. God knows what that $11 Cubs jacket would cost you today. Probably $150. That silver were stacking today at $32.09 oz cost $1.62 oz in July of 1970. Gold thats now $3,242.33 was $35.31. Not bad as a investment eh ? Its why I have little faith in currency now when you see all this or even just got to the grocery store or get a hair cut. Collecting and stacking may not make me rich but it sure as heck wont make you poor. Nice quarter.  |

Yep, I remember when I could take a quarter down to the store near my grandparents' house to get a bottle of Coke and a candy bar and have a little change left over. I also vividly remember the time I went to buy a Coke out of a machine, but the price had been increased from a dime to 15c.
