Fantastic acquisition, mrwiskers! I've loved Spanish colonials since my dad gave me an 8 Reales more than 50 years ago, and to see one overstruck like this fills me with envy. Great detective job in the bidding and identification!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

...Thank you, Bryan & Hondo ... I've spent a good amount of time looking at these coins online (eBay, MA Shops, etc...) ... you can download the pics & adjust & rotate them to orient & compare with possible host coins. ...I look for any letters / numbers on the edges to line up with 8 reales (Mexico seems to be the most common for a host coin) ... ...Once oriented, you can search for other clues to ID the host coin... ...Here's one that has a good outline of the host coin bust, but not much else in the way of clues ... However, this bust design was only used for 2 years at Mexico City, the other mints having slight variations of design... It's enough to ID the host...
