Continuing List To Show Everyones Latest Acquisitions

Went to a coin show in New Hampshire today and got lucky.
After digging through two boxes of world coins, I found a Netherlands 1940 25 Cent piece and a Netherlands East Indies 1945 2½ Cent piece.

1935 D Germany.
5 Reichsmark Paul von Hindenburg.

Two more coins arrived by mail today for my Kingdom of The Netherlands Type Set: a 1827 10 Cent piece and a 1982 50 Gulden commemorating 200 years of America - Netherlands friendship.

2 Non Halfcrown/Shilling lots - both very cheap.

1. Swiss change coins, 2.75 Francs worth of 5, 10, 20 coins dated 1955 to 1969 (No image)

2. Rhodesian mix including 2 currency halfcrown.




A weird and very cheap mix with 1964 Halfcrown, 1975 25 cents (Halfcrown size but decimal), 5 c 1973, 2 1947 Pennies and a very nice 1958 Halfpenny!

I bought this just for the Halfcrowns - the 1964 is very interesting they wanted to go decimal in 1964 and double marked the coins, but then held off until 1970 for some reason.

It is also one of the earliest uses of the Machin portrait of the Queen. Originally designed for some 1963 Decimal pattern coins of the UK, it only appeared on coins in 1964 for Rhodesia and then 1965 in Canada and 1966 in Australia. Some places used the old effigy until 1974 like Hong Kong!

The coins also emerged just after the end of the Rhodesia and Nysasland federation in late 1963. Southern Rhodesia became the white run republic of Rhodesia whose 1965 independence was not recognised by the UK, who saw it as a apartheid South Africa copycat state (Blacks had some restrictions, but were much freer than South Africa).

The 2 northern parts became independent in 1964 as Zambia and Malawi (Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland - not to be confussed with Nyassa, Mozambique). Both countries stuck with a sterling coinage until 1968 (Zambia) and 1971 (Malawi). Unlike Rhodesia, these were Black run countries with African leaders (And dictators Kenneth Kaunda and Kamazu Hastings Banda).
