I'm not sure what the reason is; I can't imagine the grading companies wouldn't know, so I assume it's based on convention. For example, for the Arkansas/Robinson, Hudson, Albany and Oregon Trail half dollars, most people think of the portrait side being the obverse, as is typical for circulating U.S. coinage, so I can see that being the reason on those. Others it seems that what is seen as the primary design feature is displayed on the front (like the Charter Oak for the Connecticut half). hokiefan_82 Pillar of the Community United States 3728 Posts	Posted 02/11/2023 5:47 pm Dearborn, I did finally find commem's post I was thinking about: http://goccf.com/t/414174 Two of those I mentioned aren't included on commem's list - the Albany and Iowa half dollars. The obverse of the Albany half is the side which features a beaver, but often this side is displayed on the back of the holder. I can't say for sure it it's most of the time, but it is common to see either one of the orientations in PCGS/NGC holders. The Iowa half's obverse features the Old Stone Capitol Building according to the U.S. Mint, but this commemorative is generally displayed with the eagle on the front of the holder. dsking Pillar of the Community United States 2365 Posts	Posted 02/11/2023 9:55 pm I finally received my first King Charles III Britannia today. I've only taken a photo of the obverse so far. After I got it I did a little search about his effigy. There's actually something interesting on it. Once you see if you can't un-see it! Here's a pic from the net that shows what is being seen better than my photo. Enjoy the hunt! I made a snippet if noone sees it but, I know how everyone notices the tiniest things.
