New 1870 1 peso, love these crown sized silver coins.
This one's a little beat up but not actually worn much which gives it a bit of charm. I was wondering if the damage on the obverse was due to a damaged planchet as opposed to PMD?

Nice additions, NumisEd and totty.

Went to one of the local church rummage sales and came across a new RedBook!

One thing that I've found as I've been building up my library is the availability of new or barely used numismatic reference books, even some that date back to the '50's or earlier. And, they often can be found at very low prices. Several of the reference books I have were ex-library copies which look like they were never opened except to put the library stamps on them.

@captaindrake

That is certainly an unusually attractive Lady given the distracting field and cheek "dings". I'd guess MS 62 or MS63 depending on who graded it, and I'm assuming they would give it a little boost because of eye appeal. It also looks semi proof like.

Quite agree on the circulation wear adding some charm to the coin! Nice!

Those older reference books (e.g. pre-widespread adoption of the Internet) should IMHO be digitized so that their pricing information can be made available for future generations.

Apparently Whitman Publishing processed digital versions in 2012. I read it in Coin World and Numismatic News. However, I can't seem to find where they are available. Maybe it didn't go over very well?
