mrwiskers Pillar of the Community United States 1780 Posts	Posted 08/08/2024 11:23 am ..........................................interesting additions, Dearborn & GLB49...what a beauty! ... ...eBay purchase today, seller's pics.. ...I couldn't resist this poor little underweight, crude cob ... it was most likely 'shaved' in circulation, & passed as full weight ... a common practice with these cobs ... ...Spain recognized this problem, so, in 1773, she ceased production of cobs altogether, in favor of machine milled coinage that was harder to counterfeit, & more easily detected if a coin had been shaved or clipped. ...Pareidolia is easy with these crude coins, but one can make out the remnants of the partial date (..73) on the base of the reverse.
