Roger tested the coin to the same specs he used for the 1859 study he used a few years ago in the CN journal

Could be a Bahamas $10 gold planchet that the RCM minted for them in 1972. 3.2 g and roughly the same diameter (18.5 mm) as a CDN penny (19.05 mm). That would be pretty cool if it were!

If you are not keeping it, send to PCGS and stick it in one of the main Canadian auctions, cool errors are getting amazing prices lately

The Bahamas gold planchet is .917 or 22 carat gold, the recent loonie on a dime just sold for 6200 bucks plus tax a really cool error but never though it's a 7000.00 coin

Wow, the composition results are not at all what I expected! It doesn't seem to fit the Bahamas $10 composition... Could it possibly be an "accidental" overstrike of an existing coin instead of wrong planchet?

What elements would a gold-plated cent give off, and in what % ? Has that been tested as a comparison ? The thicker the plating the higher the Au number ? As I understand it, the xrf only affects the first several layers of atoms, not deep inside the interior. Thus the copper, tin, and zinc under gold plating could be read by the xrf where the plating was thin and their atoms were also excited by the x-rays.
Notice that the only 3 elements beside gold that are present are the only 3 metals in 1972 cents. If it is the size and weight of a cent, then how could it be over 61% gold and not weigh more ? HMMM, it's actually .14 grams less than listed issue weight ?
