A BIE does refer to a die chip, so I guess you have half a BIE here!

Yes, it is a BIE Die Chip.
For more examples, type in BIE Die Chip under the Search Forum.
There are examples from many different years.

Loved it when I was a youngster and asked my dad to bring home some rolled pennies when he deposited his check. No direct deposit then...good time bonding looking for errors.
