Hi,

I lightened the picture of LIBERTY so It was easier for me to see. This is typical Machine Doubling and is not a doubled die.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi,

Doubled dies refer to coins struck where the die itself had doubling on it due to the hubbing process used to make the die.

Machine Doubling happens if a die moves during a strike, or takes a little bounce.
It can also happen as the coin is being ejected from a die after a strike.

Doubled dies and Machine Doubling are two different animals , so to speak, and the wording is not interchangeable. Machine Doubling is a common occurrence and while collected by some, there is no premium associated with it.

Thanks,
Bill
