Anyone out there know the origin of the subject matter on the voyageurs dollar.I know its a voyageur and a indigenous person by Hahn.
Was it based on someone or just generic image.

It seems it's only generic. Charlton catalogue just adds that it's a Hudson Bay voyageur. There's an HB incused into the front bundle in the canoe. Sorry, no Radisson and Groseilliers from old history classes.

I've been playing on ancestry it's as addictive as coins ,it's ironic you mentioned Groselliers ,in my research turns out my 9xgggrandfather traveled with him for fact ,amongst his many adventures ,any way I digress, his grandsons my 6xgrandfather and uncles were Voyageurs contracted to Hudsons Bay Co. and Nwc.found 475 contracts in St.Bonniface mb.
Can you understand as a collector my curiosity

Hunt down a copy of "Striking Impressions : The Royal Canadian Mint and Canadian Coinage"

https://www.amazon.ca/Striking-Impr...p/0660121409

Lots of good info in this book that will help with your research.
