I'm trying to identify this coin. It looks very similar to an Austrian 1/2 Thaler, but cannot find a matching thaler. The coin is 42 mm in diameter and 28.5 grams. It looks as though it should be in this family of coins from The Royal Mint of Bohemia, but I can't find a match. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces80854.html Edited by Jadey 10/23/2018 06:03 am

Fantastic! Thank you very much. Your second link did not work for me, it just said "Search Failed". I'm not sure what you mean by Catalog Dav. 1078. Once you provided the specific information, I was able to find another one here on NumisBids. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...678&lot=4297

I may need to get this one graded. The auction you showed sold in 2011 for about $750 USD. The one I just linked sold in 2016 for 5000 CHF which is apparently a Swiss Franc. 5000 CHF converts to about 5015 USD.

1. Sorry that link did not work. If you go to the CoinArchives website, click on World Coins, and search on "Bohemia Thaler 1718" you will find it. Anyhow, here is an image of that coin, and the selling price was 125,000 Yen, or about $1100: 2. There is a catalog of Thalers written by a guy named Davenport which is THE standard reference for thalers 3. The link you posted is not your coin. Look at the words around the rim on the reverse of the coin (the side with the two headed eagle and coat of arms). You will be able to see the difference. It has a different Dav. number because it is a different coin. I hope some other experts here will take a look at your coin and comment on whether you should get it graded. It appears to be a coin that does not come up for sale very often, and we have seen that it sold in 2011 for 500 euro ($600) and in 2016 for $1100, though yours is of a lower grade than the 2016 sale, but still a very attractive and collectible coin.

That was silly of me. The coin I found was the only one that returned for my search, and I just assumed it was correct based on the front.
Mine is definitely a couple grades down from the one you just linked.

To me, you'v got an attractive coin with a dark patina, and some collectors like that. It's hard to tell from your images whether the condition is just a little lower (XF) or more.
Grading is not my thing, which is why I hope some others will take a look.

I never noticed this before, but I was just trying to get better lighting, and I shined a light from the side. That dark vertical line in his hair above the shoulder that looks like a black patina is a gouge in the coin. Bummer.
