So, I made a purchase of three different 1999 double date pennies. I looked at them closely and all three are different. I posted photos of two of them. I had encapsulated one before I had decided to make this posting, so I could not scan it. The scans did not turn out all that great, but I hope you guys can see the errors.

1999 Error #1 (Not showing), appears to be nothing more than Machine Doubling except that there are three strong die breaks coming off of the two maple leaves. There is also what appears to me to be a Misplaced Bud at the top of the second maple leaf. All three nines, the large Bud, and the Spine are re-punched (doubled). So, is the entire stem on the right side running from the base to the top of the left side leaf.

1999 Error #2 (Labeled Double 99): This one has very strong re-punching of the last two nines at top. It almost looks like the nines were cut rather than re-punched. The stem is also doubled, but the doubling of the left leaf stem is not visible, nor is the first nine in the date re-punched. The small Bud is clearly doubled. It is this error that leads me to believe this is not a Machine Doubling error, but actually a real DDR. However, I am not an expert, so it might still be Machine Doubling. The three die breaks are still visible along with the misplaced Bud.

1999 Error #3 (labeled Double 999): All three digits in the date are re-punched at top. The stem is re-punched, but only slightly with the re-punching or doubling of the left side leaf's stem being more evident on the right side. All the die breaks are present and so is the misplaced Bud. The large Bud and the Spine are doubled at their tops. I think the doubling on this particular coin is due to machine slippage, so this would be machine damage, but double Buds and Spines are commonly collected and valued more, so this is a collectible error rather it is a true DDR or not. There is a die break on the obverse side at the face (Not photoed).

Just thought I share my new additions to my Canada Small Cent collection.

Sorry, the scans are not that great. I need a fancy digital camera. I hope the scans are good enough to see some of what I am describing in writing. I just wanted to share, but my technology is not the best. ;)

All Machine Doubling. The narrowing of the devices also is a common feature to Machine Doubling.

True DDR, would not cause a narrowing of the devices.

That's phenomenal Machine Doubling in the second picture bravo!!almost looks repunched with smaller 9's, but I think it is Machine Doubling based on the fact that varying degrees of doubling seem to be commonplace for the year.
