Hi guys,

This is a 1964 10 cent SP66 graded from NGC.

I am wondering about the catalogue value and the price for this grade.

I am able to see SP 65 being valued at 750. Is this coin worth the money?

How much is the person selling it asking for? I'm assuming you're looking to maybe purchase it.

Book/Catalog/Trend prices don't reflect what coins are currently being bought and sold for.

There are/were a number of 1964 10c specimen coins on ebay recently, with the SP66 ones selling anywhere from $150 for one with a cameo, to $275 for the ultra heavy cameo.

There is currently a SP66 cameo for $125 and a UHC for $175 on ebay...

The coin came to my attention, saw the catalogue and have an idea for the trend, I will just monitor for now :)

Where did all the recent SP-66's come from ? Were they once in ICCS-SP-64/65 flips ? Are they all even true specimens ?
Remember, buy the coin, not the slab. All graders are not equal. Some are trying to make a name for themselves in Canada by adding a number or two to claim the highest graded and many collectors fall for it.
It looks like it has finger smudges on it. At that price, wait until you can see one IN HAND before buying.
SP-66 versus hundreds of dollars loss if the next person thinks it's only a 64 or 65 and a possible ugly smudge? I wouldn't risk it.

I saw these too..they are almost certainly just nice PL strikes that NGC misattributed. I could be wrong..maybe someone submitted an unknown group of them..but I doubt it. Think about it, ICCS has only graded 2 as SP (as of the 2015 report) and that is assuming they were right that the coins were specimen which I have my doubts about..on top of that PCGS does not recognize a 1964 SP or proof strike for any coin but the dollar..and all of these so called specimens are only in NGC holders and only popping up as of late. My money is that someone is capitalizing off of a NGC labeling error/incompitence.
Feel free to call me Will.

With the recent posts on here, I have my doubts too and am not giving any credit to ICCS to properly identify PL vs SP finishes...or in my case SP vs MS vs circulated finishes.

Surprisingly enough this coin has sold for a hefty price, I think I saw recently go for 380-400 I think. They are on the market, and I am glad I brought it to your guys attention. Extra knowledge is much appreciated especially due to the fact that I do not have a population report on that coin.

Thanks guys.
